Welcome to Week 1 of Uplift Online! This week we are looking at Connection.
Connections matter, connection is an extremely important tool to use in times of uncertainty, when we feel lost, at our lowest and darkest. Having that connection with something or someone has the power to restore our confidence and to turn the light back on in those dark moments.
It is all too easy at times to disconnect ourselves from the world around us, we turn on the news and all we see at times are the bad things that are happening around the world.
Connection is key, connection has the power to turn our moods around, to give back that pep in our step, to give us that sense of purpose and belonging, connection is great for our mental health and helps build mental fitness.
So, our question to you is this:
Who will you connect with today?
Reach out to that person in your life that makes you smile, that person or people that make you feel special about who you are. A simple check-up can make all the difference in someone’s life, by connecting with people, we can change lives, for the better.
Check out the importance of connection.

Wellbeing Activity 1 – Journaling
When looking at connection, mindfulness activities are the most common ways to help you become more self-aware and build on connection to yourself.
For this activity, grab your journal and write down some reflections. You may want to reflect on your day, how you are feeling, what you are thinking or even some creative ideas you have had. You could even write about what you have going on in your world now, celebrate your achievements or set yourself some goals. Find a quiet place and spend 15 minutes journaling.
Wellbeing Activity 2 – Five Senses Activity
Take 10-15 minutes to focus on what is happening around you and complete the following Five Senses Activity. You may want to sit outside or even go for a walk with your dog or a friend. The five senses activity helps you connect with your environment and nature, but also helps you clear your mind to connect with yourself. You could even try this activity with a friend to build your connection with them!
- Notice five things that you see. Look around, find something you don’t usually notice
- Notice four things you can feel. Focus on the things you feel both inside and outside of your body such as temperature, your clothing, the grass you’re sitting on if sitting outside or the wind
- Notice three things you can hear. Try noticing things in the background you usually block out such as the wind in the trees, passing traffic or birds chirping
- Notice two things you can smell. There are lots of scents in our world we don’t take notice of; you might smell the food from the kitchen or the smell of flowers in your backyard
- Notice one thing you can taste. This could be the taste in your mouth or something you’re eating/drinking.
