Welcome to Week 2 of Uplift Online. This week’s topic is Resilience.
What is resilience?
Resilience is not like jumping on a trampoline, where you’re down one moment and up the next. It is more like climbing a mountain without a map. Resilience takes time, patience and strength from yourself and the people around you.
Exercise can help you become more resilient by building your physical and mental strength. You’ll likely still experience setbacks but, eventually you will reach the top, look back and see how far you’ve come. Everyone has resilience and it’s something you can keep building on.

Activity 1 – Fixed vs Growth Mindset
What is a Fixed Mindset?
When we think we can’t change our skills or improve our skills.
What is Growth Mindset?
When we look at our skills and think that we can improve them.
Unlike a growth mindset, a fixed mindset is when we believe that we can’t change or build on our skills. Have a think about some fixed mindsets you may have. Examples may be “I’m not good at Maths” or “I just can’t play soccer”. On page eight of your Uplift guidebook, you will find a table where you can write down your answers under the “My unhelpful self-talk (fixed mindset)” section. Then in the “My new growth mindset self-talk” section, re-write these fixed mindsets to reflect a growth mindset approach.
Activity 2 – Problem Solving
Another way we can become more resilient is through problem solving when we find ourselves in a tricky situation as we learn new things from these experiences.
Problem solving when we are in tricky situations can help us learn new things and become more resilient.
Take a look at the following jumbled sentence and have a go at un-jumbling it to reveal the sentence:
I MA RSGTNO NTENFIODC NAD IWLL TENUONCI TO GRWO
You could even get a friend or your family involved and ask them to have a go at unjumbling the sentence!
