Welcome to Week 5 of Uplift Online. This week you will be looking at Reflection.

What is reflection?

Reflection is looking back at something that has happened or thinking deeply about something.

When we reflect, we see how our week/month has been and what we have done in that time and it also allows us to look at how we are feeling. Sometimes reflection can be hard because some reflection can be confronting. It can be tricky to remember what has happened and sometimes it can feel like reflection doesn’t help when you are feeling a bit down. Reflection helps us to see our strengths/skills and interests and is beneficial for overall health and wellbeing.

What is self-reflection?

Self-reflection is looking at our thoughts, feeling, emotions and actions to become more aware of ourselves and help us grow.

Y Fit – 15 Minute Circuit Class for Teens

To begin your week on Reflection, Shelley will take you through an athletic sport and agility style training session. During this session, reflect on the thoughts you have during the session, how these thoughts have impacted your performance and think about what you have achieved over the last four weeks.

Activity 1 – Crystal Ball Thinking and Reflection

Imagine you have a crystal ball and you are seeing a situation that has already occurred where you wish things could have gone differently. Examples of situations may be an argument you had with your family, the way you and your team played in last week’s soccer match or a conflict at school with some of your mates. Grab your journal and write down how you felt in this situation, how you acted, how you reacted to other people’s feelings and actions and how the situation went.

After reflecting on this situation is there anything you wish had gone differently?

Is there anything you could have done to change the situation?

What have you learnt from this situation?

Activity 2 – Self-Awareness

Reflection will help you learn more about yourself, your feelings, your emotions, your behaviours and the ways you react and behave towards the people around you. This is called Self-Awareness. In this activity, you will look at self-awareness by identifying some things about yourself so grab your journal and try answering the following questions:

  1. What are my strengths and skills?
  2. What are my interests and hobbies?
  3. What motivates me?
  4. What do I need?
