Welcome to Week 3 of Uplift Online. This week you’ll be looking at Support.
Your interactions and connections with others help you form a support network of family and friends who you can go to when you are having a tough time.
Why is support helpful for mental health?
Support provides physical and emotional advantages for people faced with mental health events.

Activity 1 – Identifying Supporters
In this activity we look at who and what supports you to grow and be happy and healthy. Grab your journal from Week 1 and create a mind map or write a list of who your supporters are (your friends, your family, your teachers), who you support (your friends, youth group, teammates) and what helpful support looks like.
There are many people and places that are there to support you to become healthy by supporting you in areas like nutrition, body image/positivity, self-esteem and self-confidence, mental health, sleep and physical activity, all of which make up our overall wellbeing. Some services that support young people include:
- The Y NSW
- Youth Action
- https://headspace.org.au
- Youth Off The Streets
- Lifeline
- Young Life
- Mission Australia
- Beyond Blue
We mention nutrition this week as nutrition and diet are very important to your overall wellbeing. Having a well-balanced diet can increase your energy, strengthen your immune system and help you feel stronger, think more clearly and help you to handle stress. For more on diet and nutrition, take a look at page 10 of your Uplift Guidebook!

Activity 2 – Reflection
Spend around 15 minutes having a think about a situation where you could have asked for support. While thinking about this situation reflect on the following questions:
- How did you feel in this situation?
- Who was around?
- How was your wellbeing at the time?
- Was anyone there to support you?
- What held you back from seeking support?
- Are there things you could have done to support yourself?
- What kind of support could you have gained from others? Who could you have asked for support?
You could even write your reflections down in your journal if you like.
